Zika virus Probably Cause Eye Abnormalities in Infants

The number of cases zika virus transmitted by mosquitoes continue to soar over the past 12 months in Brazil.
 New York- The investigators continued to examine what happens in babies born to mothers infected with the virus Zika. A recent study published on Tuesday (09/02/2016) found there was one of three infants showed abnormalities in the eye that can affect the eyesight.

 Of the 29 babies born microcephaly --kondisi small head circumference and brain development is not lengkap--, there were 10 infants who showed abnormalities in the eye. This fact was discovered researchers from the Federal University of São Paulo in Brazil, published in the journal JAMA Ophthalmology.
The abnormality condition indicated by the damage to the retina. It is part of the eye that receives images and sends signals to the brain about what is seen.
About 80 percent of babies microcephaly are born to mothers infected with the virus Zika. Approximately 78 percent of women experience symptoms of Zika virus infection such as fever, joint pain, headache, and itching of the first three months of pregnancy.
In an accompanying editorial, ophthalmologists from the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine, Lee Jampol and Debra Goldstein suggest doctors perform eye examinations are thorough in all infants with the condition microcephaly in areas that were affected by the virus Zika, as quoted by USA Today on Wednesday (10 / 2/2016).
"We are very worried about this. There has been no comprehensive study to find out what is happening in the baby's vision is later," said Jampol.
